There's Strength in Numbers

The Benefits of Group Travel

You’ve heard the old quote…"There is strength in numbers”. Well, there is also a heck of a lot of fun in numbers, especially when you travel with like-minded, fun-seeking friends and family members. Unless you are planning a honeymoon or simply a romantic getaway for two, you might want to consider asking a few friends or family members to join you on your next vacation. Here are several reasons why it can really enhance your experience:

My latest group trip to Ireland - August 2018

1.  I take a group at least once a year to a destination that is either on my bucket list or that I’ve been to and want to go back to see and experience more.  Just a few weeks ago, 26 or us headed for Ireland.  We had an absolute blast!  There was always someone to explore with, eat with, have a drink with….but yet if we felt like we needed or wanted alone time, we were able to accomplish that too.  As usual, many life-long friendships and memories were made and the stress of traveling alone and figuring things out of your own didn’t even exist.  When a group travels together, a group leader (in this case it was me!) makes sure everything is running smoothly and that no questions are left unanswered.

2. Extended families often live miles apart and the average family with children usually has such an incredibly busy schedule that it is often impossible to find the time to enjoy each other. It is becoming more and more common for a member of the family – usually a grandparent – to spearhead (and sometimes pay for) a multi-generational family group to get away together. I am currently working with a family group who is planning a custom tour of Ireland for next summer to trace their heritage – funded by Grandma. She would rather enjoy the experience of having all of her family together now than to leave them the money later. Cruising is a very popular extended-family getaway because there are so many on-board activities that appeal to all different age groups. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere that allows all ages to have fun and spend time with each other.

3. It’s also becoming more popular for groups of friends to get away together. How much fun would it be to have a little adult R&R with some of your favorite buddies. You’ll be talking and reminiscing about the trip for years!!

4. When a work-related group gets away from the stresses of the office by traveling together at the end of a busy season, they get the chance to blow off some steam and make fantastic memories together. That can lead to happiness in the workplace, and even improve the long-term employee retention numbers in the firm.  A company that plays together…stays together!

So, have I inspired YOU to get a small group together for your next adventure? Or to join me on my 2019 France river cruise on the Seine and Rhone rivers to discover the beaches of Normandy and the beautiful Provence wine area?  It could end up being your favorite vacation EVER! Why not get away with some friends and family to make some amazing memories???? It’s a true “Win-win” for everyone!
